The higher idle could be happening because you have now fixed some of the clutch problem and there's less drag being generated. I showed the tech the picture and he said that the slight groove was normal. I've also posted a picture of the inner half assembly. Any idea on why it might sound like it's idling a little higher than usual shortly after smoking a belt? Link to pictures of the faulty spring. I've posted a picture of the spring, the can-am technician was really helpful and he said the broken spring would definitely cause it to creep. Would the temperature cause it to idle higher until it warmed up? I drove it around the yard and down the road a few times. I still feel like it is idling a little higher than usual, but honestly it's a little colder now than it was when I got it stuck a few weeks ago. When I dropped it the tires didn't spin anymore. With the tires elevated the tires still spun very slowly while in gear and idling. I put the new belt on along with the clutch and new compression springs and sleeves. I took his word it that the entire clutch was good. I'm certain there is more to it, but I didn't ask and he didn't go any further with it. When I picked them up I had them take a look at the clutch/oneway bearing and they said for a 2004 model it was surprisingly in flawless condition and seemed to spin just the way it should. Luckily the can-am dealership had two in stock. I finally got it out and noticed the spring was broken in half and somewhats mangled. It remained flush with the inner half assembly shaft. Not a clue how it got mangled the way it did, but when I took the clutch off I noticed one of the spring sleeves and springs didn't come out. Ok, so one of two compression springs was bad. I've attached a video so you can see what it's doing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm leaving this Friday to go hunting and I really need it back up and running correctly. Would a damaged belt cause an ATV to do this? The new belt will be here Tuesday, but I'm worried this may not fix the moving while idling problem. I've never had this problem with it and I'm hoping it has something to do with the damaged belt. Once it's in either forward or reverse it moves while idling. The belt is being shipped, but today I got it prepped for installation and I noticed another problem. I assumed the belt was more damaged than I thought so I parked it. Once I get it over about 5mph it runs smooth with no abnormal sound. While accelerating slowly it jerks and makes a clanking sound. The terrain was rough, so I didn't notice anything different until the next day when I drove it out of the garage and down the driveway. After we got it pulled out, it seemed to run just fine on the way home. I burned the belt and immediately stopped giving it gas and hoped for the best. I was stuck so bad the wheels wouldn't spin. I got stuck in wet sand that pretty much turned to what seemed to be concrete. Unfortunately, I recently ran it harder than usual and ended up getting stuck. I've owned this ATV for 4 years and I've never had a problem with it. Once again - Thank you for shopping at brssm.OUTLANDER 400 HIGH-OUTPUT 4X4-I'm really hoping somebody can help me out.
